Wild-Wild Fall, Scarf/Cowl Crochet Pattern Release!

Updated: Jan 26, 2021

Hello everybody! I can't believe the day has come that I get to publish my own pattern! May I introduce to you... Wild-Wild Fall, Scarf/Cowl pattern!

This pattern is one of my favorite scarf patterns I've crocheted, and I'm not just saying this because I designed it. The scarf works up very fast and it's also adjustable with lots of optional additions. Additions including edging and turning your scarf into a cowl!

Just because the name of the pattern has the 'Fall' in it, doesn't mean that this scarf is only available in Autumn! With a matter of changing the color or size yarn you use, you can easily design it for any season.

I'm so excited I get to share with you this pattern, I plan on designing more in the future! Granted, I've been working on this for about four months so I might need to increase my pace, but it's totally worth it!

My pattern testers (@hookoverheels, @yarnstuffs, and @nayguacali on Instagram) gave their feedback on the pattern, they all had nothing but nice things to say. Charlotte from Hook Over Heels says "It was a super quick and easy pattern, and an incredible person designing it as well!" All three of them got the pattern done in record time, they gave helpful feedback and I want to thank each and every one of them for testing my pattern! The picture to the left is Julia from @yarnstuffs pattern test.

Gauge

I used a worsted weight (4) yarn with a 5.5 mm hook. Here are my measurements: length- 3”, width- 6”, stitches per inch (width)- 3 stitches, and rows per inch- 1.66 (repeating) rows.

*Note* I have a fairly loose tension.

Begin with a slip knot, ch 18

After chaining 18, crochet 15 dc X 5 rows. This should get you up to the measurements already listed.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Scarf

Begin with a slip knot, ch 28

R1 Dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across. (27 dc including ch 3) This measured approx 8.5”. Ch 1 and turn.

R2 Sc across (27 sc including ch 1). Ch 3 and turn.

R3 We’re going to be using the puff/bobble st this row, refer to the instructions at the top of the page. 12x. (26 total sts) (13 total puff sts). Ch 2 and turn.

R4 Repeat R3. (26 total sts) (13 total puff sts). Instead of chaining 2 as R3 instructs, leave it as a ch 1 and turn.

R5 Sc across in each bobble and ch 1 sp (26 sts including ch 1). Don’t forget to sc into the ch 1 spaces! Ch 3 and turn.

R6 Dc across (27 dc including ch 3). Ch 3 and turn.

R7 → Repeat rows 1-6 till your satisfied length. The first repeat should be approx 3”.

The next part of the scarf is scalloped edging for the top and bottom of the scarf. If you don’t want this addition, end off here. If not, leave the yarn attached and continue onto the next part.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Optional Scalloped Edging

Continuing from R7… ch 1 and turn

R8 *Sc once. Sk next st. In the following st, place 5 dc. Sk the following stitch, place a sc in the next st.* Repeat until the end of the row. (5 clusters) Finish off.

Once R8’s complete, attach yarn with a sl st to the opposite end of the scarf and repeat R8.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Turning The Scarf Into A Cowl

Before ending off, sl st the ends of each side together, make sure to not twist the fabric in this process. If you made the optional edging, you would sl st the scalloped edges together. If you didn’t you would crochet the flat sides together.
